January 2024 Lessons – Introspection on Focus

Each month I keep a list of thoughts, ideas, opinions, and insights that I come across and find interesting. From this list I’ve selected some to share with you:

Introspection On Focus - Graph showing as we age we take things less seriously

  • Almost everyone I’ve ever met would be well-served by spending more time thinking about what to focus on. - Sam Altman
  • You must cultivate activities that you love. You must discover work that you do, not for its utility, but for itself, whether it succeeds or not, whether you are praised for it or not, whether you are loved and rewarded for it or not, whether people know about it and are grateful to you for it or not. How many activities can you count in your life that you engage in simply because they delight you and grip your soul? Find them out, cultivate them, for they are your passport to freedom and to love.” - The Way to Love
  • In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.” - The True Believer
  • You can spell word-of-mouth marketing in just 11 letters: overdeliver. - Greg Isenberg
  • Uncertainty is painful to accept. It’s far more comfortable to form a complete narrative about how things work. In a quest to leave no question unanswered, emotion gladly fills the holes left by a lack of information. The problem with emotion and passion is they tend to be black or white, with no room for the nuance required to understand most topics. You get a false sense of confidence, and one that’s disguised as absolute truth. -
  • Perhaps the most comforting thing about growing old gracefully is the increasing ability not to take things too seriously. One of the big differences between a genuine sage and a preacher is gayety. When the sage laughs it is a belly laugh; when the preacher laughs, which is all too seldom, it is on the wrong side of the face. -  Henry Miller on Turning 80, Fighting Evil, And Why Life is the Best Teacher

My thoughts are subject to change and I will get some things wrong. I promise to keep learning and strive to keep doing better. I'm by no means an expert on any topic I may write or make videos about so always do your own research as well. I try to keep an open mind. If I can teach you something and also learn something from you then I'm doing what I set out to do. Thanks for reading. These are just some thoughts.
